The Burlington operation in Raeford, NC has been proudly producing dress uniform fabric for the US Military for more than 50 years. Job Description:
Assists Maintenance Mechanics in the repair and maintenance of electrical and electronic circuits and components on plant machinery and equipment, power circuits and light fixtures.

Authorized Training Period:
Minimum of 12 months, maximum of 24 months as defined in MPACT policy manual.

Physical Requirements:
-Standing up to 8 hours on concrete floor
-Walk anywhere on plant property, including roofs
-Climb and perform work on ladders and scaffolds
-May be required to lift as much as 60lbs, 5-10 times per shift. Maybe be required to push and pull gang boxes, welding machines, etc. weighing up to 300lbs, several times per shift
-Communicate openly over radio and telephone with co-workers and management on a daily basis
-Required to reach up to 36" to perform work
-Normal vision is required to distinguish wire colors, color-coded pips, etc.
-Bends to floor level throughout shift to perform some repairs in close or tight spaces
-Normal hand grasp and manual dexterity to operate tools. Must crawl under and on top of machinery as well as walk in between machines spaced 36" apart.
-Use of safety glasses, face shield, hearing protection, gloves, dust mask as required for conditions. Hearing protection is required in some departments.

Education/Experience Prerequisites:
-Preferred: Mechanically inclined. High school graduate, or equivalent.

Other Requirements:
-Willing to work in adverse conditions (outdoors, cold, wet, hot, etc.)
-Willingness to work Weekends and holidays, after hours, on call-backs, and during week-long summer and Christmas shutdowns.
-Must have telephone to be reached in case of plant emergency.
-Driver's license and personal transportation desirable.

Machines, Tools & Equipment used: Hand tools and craft tools including electrical measuring instruments, screw drivers, wrenches, pliers, knives, hammer, saw, soldering iron, ruler, test light, voltmeter, ammeter, and wire pullers.

Materials used: Machine parts, lubricants, electrical wire, electrical hardware, and miscellaneous store items.

Working Procedure:

  1. Participates in training program.
  2. Assists in the repair of electrical and electronic parts of plant machinery, equipment and power wiring.
  3. Learns use of tools of the craft.
  4. Keeps work area clean.
  5. Follows all safety procedures.
  6. Locates and re-sets circuit breakers.
  7. Mounts and replaces simple light switches, relays, etc.
  8. Pulls wire or cable through conduit.
  9. Repairs simple electrical items such as extension cords, small switches, light circuit, etc.
  10. Performs predictive/preventive maintenance as directed.
  11. Secures tools and materials as directed from tool room and/or supply room.
