Job Description:
Repairs and maintains mechanical components of plant machinery, vehicles, utilities, and plant structure in accordance with instructions.
Physical Requirements:
-Standing up to 10 hours on concrete floor
-Walk anywhere on plant property, including roofs
-Climb and perform work on ladders and scaffolds
-May be required to lift as much as 60lbs, 5-10 times per shift. Maybe be required to push and pull gang boxes, welding machines, etc. weighing up to 300lbs, several times per shift
-Communicate openly over radio and telephone with co-workers and management on a daily basis
-Required to reach up to 36" to perform work
-Normal vision is required to distinguish wire colors, color-coded pips, etc. Must have 20/30 vision for new license and 20/40 for re-license.
-Bends to floor level throughout shift to perform some repairs in close or tight spaces
-Normal hand grasp and manual dexterity to operate tools. Must crawl under and on top of machinery as well as walk in between machines spaced 36" apart.
-Use of safety glasses, face shield, hearing protection, gloves, dust mask as required for conditions. Hearing protection is required in some departments.
Education/Experience Prerequisites:
-Mandatory: Must have prior mechanical experience.
-Preferred: Welding experience a plus, but not required. High school graduate, or equivalent. Advanced Manufacturing Training. Experience as a Machine Technician/Overhauler
Other Requirements:
-Willing to work in adverse conditions (outdoors, cold, wet, hot, etc.)
-Willingness to work Weekends and holidays, after hours, on call-backs, and during week-long summer and Christmas shutdowns.
-Must have telephone to be reached in case of plant emergency.
-Driver's license and personal transportation desirable.
Machines, Tools & Equipment used: Hand tools, carpenter tools, machine tools, measuring instruments, general shop equipment. Tools include electrical drills, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, knives, hammer, saw, rule, dies, test light, pipe threader, miscellaneous testing equipment.
Materials used: Machine parts, lubricants, lumber, metals, non-metals, and miscellaneous store items. Parts used include bearings, shafts, sleeves, gears, pins, steel, pipe, and machine replacement parts.

- Executes work orders as required.
- Use tools of the craft with skill.
- Accomplishes each assignment with quality workmanship
- Keeps work area neat and clean.
- Follows all safety procedures
- Assists in the installation, cleaning, repair, replacement, assembly, and lubrication of mechanical equipment such as fans, fire protection systems, conveyors, elevators, dock boards, pumps, mechanical doors, laboratory equipment, air compressors, cooling towers, tanks, fork trucks, boilers, aerators, etc.
- Assists in the installation, cleaning, repair, replacement, assembly, and lubrication of production equipment such as dye becks, dryers, autoclaves, oil boilers, pressure dye machines, extractors, tenter frames, slashes, ovens, shears, singe machines, pad dryers, carbonizers, nappers, wash ranges, etc.
- Assists in maintenance and repair of environmental equipment such as Abington units, electro-static precipitators, bag houses, heat exchangers, scrubbers, sludge presses, clarifiers, lint screens, dust collectors, etc.
- Does predictive/preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned
- Assists in the moving and installation of utility and production equipment
- Assists in the fabrication of production and service equipment.
- Does all the tasks performed by a Maintenance Apprentice (M) and Maintenance Mechanic I
- Performs monthly, quarterly, and yearly audits on Fire systems, Fire pumps, fire extinguishers, emergency exit signs, fire door
