Your Role at Baxter

The Senior Manager of Sustaining and Upgrades Engineering leads the execution of hardware and software improvements across Baxter Hillrom devices installed in the field. The person will sustain product software deployment e.g., software patches and or upgrades to enhance or mitigate cybersecurity-related concerns, software license expiration, and other product updates. This position will directly lead and manage a team of engineers and people leaders. Products associated with this position will include but not be limited to ExactaMix, ABACUS, DoseEdge, NurseCall, and other products as assigned.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and develop multiple front-line managers and engineers in the upgrade engineering and sustaining software deployment processes.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders such as R&D, PMO and other engineering teams to determine the execution strategy for upgrades & other product enhancements including training to new releases, execution, planning and forecasting activity.
  • Develop and implement departmental procedures and policies.
  • Develop operating budgets and capacity plans for the sustaining engineering operations teams
  • Assist and may lead troubleshooting efforts with our customer base. Troubleshooting needs may occur after hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Travel to customer sites, customer experience centers to understand the environment in which our products operate.
  • Effectively communicate complex issues in a simple manner to Executives (internal & external)
  • Lead field action efforts related to upgrades as necessary
  • Lead and own the technical customer experience related to sustaining engineering deployment operations
  • Provide ongoing communications across both Baxter & customers
  • Resolve issues and risks related for the upgrade engineering team and customers
  • Works collaboratively with the customer and other Baxter team members to meet objectives, milestones and project timelines. Adheres to all training and installation procedures to provide a consistent customer experience.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience operating in clinical environments e.g.,pharmacy, critical care, alternate sites of care with varying levels of clinicians.
  • Strong collaboration and cross-functional interpersonal skills as this position consistently partners with R&D, project managers, and customers.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and rely heavily on critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to understand and identify issues quickly and be able to predict needs and trends.
  • Strong project leadership skills with ability to manage multiple projects, establish processes and handle competing interests.

  • Must have good computer skills with a working knowledge of MS Operating Systems and the MS Office Suite of Applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically with a potential for international travel
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent preferred in a technical field e.g., computer science, engineering is preferred
  • 5+ years experience in software, networking, and/or medical device hardware
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA (or higher),CompTIA Security+, CompTIA, Linux+, CompTIA ITF, CompTIA A+, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, or LPI Linux Essentials preferred
  • Knowledgeable in technologies such as the below
    • SQL/Scripting/Reporting Engines/Analytics (SAS Crystal, etc.)
    • Networking (TCP/IP, Routing, Switching, Security)
    • Enterprise level hardware (Server/Client OS, SANS, RAID)
    • Middleware (Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Mirth etc.)
    • Microsoft Windows
    • Linux, Kubernetes
    • Wireless - Enterprise level/managed networks
    • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Windows platforms, SQL, IIS server and other networked systems.
    • Advanced understanding of deploying and supporting Linux based platforms (Kubernetes) and associated networked systems.
    • Detailed knowledge of common network protocols/architecture (TCP/IP, IP routing, OSI model, VLAN, etc), client/server networking environments and standard processes, managed switches, VOIP, and network security.
    • Basic VoIP and/or PBX telephony knowledge and basic configuration experience. Experience configuring, setting up, and debugging Windows and Linux based systems

At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $136,000 to $187,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
