Job Description
The Activities Therapy Assistant assists with the development and implementation of activity programs for residents/patients of all ages, either in group or one-to-one settings, which meet the social, spiritual, emotional and/or psychiatric needs of the residents/patients to ensure quality of life. The residents/patients may have diverse cognitive and physical limitations.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Activity Assistant Certification (AAC) by the National Certification Council for Activities Professionals (NCCAP) preferred Current Virginia driver's license and acceptable driver's record (where required) CPR preferred Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: CPR required with 6 months of date of hire Activity Assistant Certification (AAC) by the National Certification Council for Activities Professionals (NCCAP) preferred Current Virginia driver's license and acceptable driver's record (where required) Experience REQUIRED: Previous experience working with the children, adolescents or elderly, preferably in activities related work Previous experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Experience PREFERRED: Previous activity/recreational therapy experience, psychiatric medicine or hospital setting experience Education/training REQUIRED: (Note: work experience may be considered in lieu of credentials not required by law with HR approval.Work experience must be specific to role) High School Graduate or equivalent Education/training PREFERRED: Associate's Degree in Human Services from an accredited program Completion of a 36-hour activity course Independent action(s) required: Assist and implement activity programs either in a group setting or on a one-to-one basis, which meets the social, spiritual, emotional and/or psychiatric needs of the residents/patients to ensure quality of life. Responsible for assessing residents/patients in order to develop an individualized activity plan of care and documentation of plan for all age group. Works closely with volunteers and diverse group of residents/patients. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/A Additional position requirements: Rotating weekends required. Occasional evening. Flexibility in work hours as needed to accommodate departmental needs. Age Specific groups served: All age groups Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical Lifting 50-100 lbs.
